Nicolás Ernesto Cortés Castillo

Born in 1990 at La Serena (Chile), he began his studies in 2001 at the Experimental School of Music "Jorge Peña Hen". In 2016 he graduated as a Tuba Interpreter at the University of Chile and in 2021 he obtained a master's degree in Tuba at the Arrigo Boito Conservatory of Parma (Italy). Between 2010 and 2014 he was a member of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra, with which He participated in the European tour “Tocando Sueños” (2012).

In 2013 the youth contest soloists of the festival of trombones and tubas Trombonanza; and in 2016 the soloists contest of the Student Symphonic Band of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile.

As an arranger, he has enriched the repertoire of various national ensembles, such as
the brass quintet Bill Brass, Ensemble Metropolitano de Metales and the Ensemble
Mapocho Collective with pieces drawn mostly from Chilean folklore. In 2017 he carried out the adaptation for the orchestra of the cantata “Geoda” by Claudio Morales.
In 2015, together with the brass quintet AdondeBrass, he premiered his first work “Suite Maestra”. In 2021 has begun his studies of composition at the Arrigo Boito Conservatory of Parma.
